Jessica Lowell Mason is a Ph.D. candidate and teaching assistant in the Global Gender and Sexuality Studies Department at the University at Buffalo. She has taught composition courses at Spoon River College, Carl Sandburg College, Western Illinois University, and Buffalo State College. MIn addition to teaching, she has worked for Shakespeare in Delaware Park, Ujima Theatre Co., Just Buffalo Literary Center, the Jewish Repertory Theatre, and Prometheus Books. Jessica was awarded the Gloria Anzaldúa Rhetorician Award by the Conference on College Composition and Communication in 2014. In 2022, she received an Excellence in Teaching Award from the Graduate School at the University at Buffalo. Jessica is the Northeast Modern Language Association’s 2022 and 2023 Hospitality Fellow. Her poems, articles, and reviews have appeared in a number of journals, including The Comstock Review, Lambda Literary, Gender Focus, Sinister Wisdom, Lavender Review, IthacaLit, Passengers Journal, The Feminist Wire, and Praeger. Her first full-length book of poetry, STRAIGHT JACKET, was published in 2019 by Finishing Line Press. She is the co-founder of the feminist mental health literacy organization, Madwomen in the Attic.
