Sappho, 1852, by James Pradler
I am including this 19th Century image of Sappho here in order to emphasize that Sappho of Lesbos and an unnamed 21st Century schoolteacher are the mythical inspirations of Headmistress Press. I came up with the name based on their conflation. This image honors both the former and the latter, the hidden figure within the hidden figure within the heart of the poet.
